Wisconsin State Government Grants and Tax Credits
In support of economic development in Southeastern Wisconsin, the Business Services team
acts as a conduit to financial assistance offered by the Federal Government and the State of Wisconsin, including Wisconsin state government grants and tax credits. A variety of government grants, tax credits, and other subsidies stimulate the growth of high technology and aid in the training of skilled and technical workers.

Some of the available Wisconsin government grants, tax credits and subsidies are listed below:
- On the Job Training –
Wisconsin government grants that provide up to 50% reimbursement of gross wages to offset the initial training costs of new, or in some circumstances, incumbent workers.
- Customized Labor Training
– Wisconsin state grants that provide up to 50% match of eligible project costs for training employees in new technology, industrial skills, or manufacturing processes for businesses that are expanding, or locating their business in Wisconsin.
- Business Employees’ Skills Training (BEST) – state government grants that provide up to 75% match of eligible project costs, not to exceed $1,000 per full time employee or $5,000 per business, for small businesses with 25 or less employees in specific industrial clusters.
- Technology Zone Tax Credit Program - Businesses investing in high technology production processes, systems, or equipment; engaged in R & D or the manufacture of advanced products or materials and are part of a high-tech knowledge-based industry cluster may be eligible for tax credits. - Wisconsin Community Development Zone
– Two zones in the City of Racine exist for businesses making a commitment to expand – and create additional jobs – which
offer tax credits for hiring
Wisconsin residents or for
environmental remediation.
- Wisconsin Enterprise Zone – Similar to the Community Development Program above, this applies to specific businesses expanding and creating jobs in distressed areas.
- Federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit
– Save up to $2,400 per hire for employing members of specific targeted groups, which is applied to your business tax liability.
