CATI - Technology Transfer
Technology Transfer represents an excellent opportunity to spawn new firms and bring new products and services to the market. Technology transfer represents the commercialization of ideas, products, and services which have been initially developed either on extramural funding at colleges and universities or which are the result of internal research and development or "intrapreneurship" in industrial firms.
Technology transfer activities at CATI present an opportunity to mix customers with both substantial business experience, such as individuals from an industry spinning-off a new firm, with neophytes and educators. In addition, technology transfer activities are intrinsically linked to parent organizations (universities and industries), from which additional talent, facilities, and ideas can be drawn.
CATI has acquired numerous patents from companies across the country and are making our intellectual property available for entrepreneurs and existing companies seeking new product ideas, or access to new markets. CATI's total intellectual property asset base is expected to top $50 million by the end of 2003. Please review these opportunities in our licensing section.
Technology transfer ventures are offered the same package of CATI Services provided to all ventures, though the fee structure and licensing agreements may be negotiated separately based on the support that may also be provided by the parent institution. It is also expected that the advisory boards developed for the new ventures may include individuals from the parent organization, to assure that their goals are met and their equity interest is maintained.
