The youth at the UWP REC Center site are learning eco-science techniques and applying them to projects at various sites coordinated by the REC. Youth are learning about native vs. invasive
plant species, food webs, water quality sampling, urban run-off, rain gardens, buffer zones, forest ecology, laboratory techniques, leadership, videography, and river ecology.. This project aims to engage the youth in science-based work activities and introduce them to community groups working in these areas. The youth are also being given instruction on proper interaction with children and people of diverse backgrounds through on site initial training sessions and that instruction is being maintained throughout the work experience as they learn new skills.
